After high school Strait eloped with his high school sweetheart Norma. He enlisted in the Army in 1971 and was stationed in Hawaii where he played Country music with his band Rambling Country. Strait left the Army in 1975 and went back to Texas and enrolled in Southwest University to study agriculture while there, he formed his own band, Ace in The Hole.He made a few records for an Independent label in the late 70’s with minimal success. In 1979 he became friends with Ed Woosley, who owned a couple clubs in the area and used to work with MCA records. Woosley took a couple of executives from MCA and Music Row to hear him play and they signed him in 1980.
George Strait's First Single "Unbound"
“Unwound” was George Strait’s first single in 1981 and climbed the country charts to the country top 40. He had a string of Top Country songs and hits well into the 2000’s. In the 1980’s alone he reached the top of the country charts 18 times with songs like “Baby Blue” and “All my exes live in Texas.” In 1985 he won the CMA awards for Album of the year and male vocalist.In 1986 he repeated as Country Music’s Male Vocalist of the year, but the year was marked by the tragic death of his 13 year old daughter in an automobile crash. In the 1989 George Strait won the CMA’s Entertainer of the year Award.

George Strait "Amirillo in the Morning" & I "Crossed My Heart"
He continued in country music radio and country music television with top country songs and country music video’s through the 90’s with hits like “If I know Me” and “You Know Me Better Than That” which remained on Billboards Country airplay chart for numerous weeks and in 1992 released a movie “ Pure Country” which featured him in the lead role. The song “I Crossed My Heart” was used for the movie soundtrack became one of Strait’s biggest Country Hits to date. In 1996 he won CMA award for single of the year with “Check Yes Or No” and Male Vocalist for 1997 & 1998. He had 17 hits in the 90’s including “One Night at a Time” And “Write This Down” The 2000’s he continued with hits and awards with new songs “ She’ll Leave You With A Smile” and “Cowboys Like Us” In 2006 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame. In 2009 he was honored by the Academy of Country Music as the Artist of the Decade Award presented by Country singer Garth Brooks. In 2009 Strait won a Grammy for his album “Troubadour.” He fills arenas with legends Ronnie Milsap, Patti Loveless and newcomer Taylor Swift. His concerts feature superstars like Lonestar and Alan Jackson and are called Country music festivals and have played to 2.5 million people in the last 3 years.“The King of Country” is responsible for revitalizing a wave of neo-traditional singer-songwriters from Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakum and Clint Black to Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson. Strait continues in Country music and follows the Rodeo circuit with his son George “Bubba” Strait Jr. who is pursuing a career with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
