Early Life of George Strait

George Strait nickname is “King George,". Strait father, John Byron Strait was professionally a junior high school mathematics teacher. The family had a 2,000 acre cattle ranch outside of Big Wells, Texas. George Strait parents got divorced when he was in third standard. George Strait mother left with her daughter and George Strait and his brother lived with their father. George Strait initiated his interest in music, playing with a rock band in Pearsall High School. George Strait was extremely influenced by the country singers, like, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Bob Wills and Hank Williams. 

 

 

 

After graduating from high school, George Strait eloped with his high school girlfriend, his love Norma.

They got married in Mexico. On October 6, 1972, George and Norma gave birth to their first child, Jennifer.

Career and Achievements of George Strait

In 1971, George Strait joined in the US Army. While George Strait was stationed in Hawaii, George Strait performed with an Army-sponsored band, “Rambling Country.” George Strait was discharged from his job in army in 1975. George Strait decided to return to his studies.

George Strait enrolled himself at Southwest Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas. In 1979, George Strait completed graduation in agriculture. George Strait is also known as the "King of Country.” Some of his critics also designate him as a living legend.

Barroom ballads, western swing music, honky-tonk style, fresh yet traditional country western music style were the unique styles of George Strait which made him popular.

George Strait received CMA Entertainer of the year in 1989 and 1990. George Strait also got ACM Entertainer of the year award in 1990. George Strait is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. George Strait has made a record by getting nominated for more CMA awards than any other artist. Presently in 2008, George Strait is holding the largest Number One hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

As compared to all other music charts, George Strait has a total of fifty-six Number one hits overall, breaking record at the moment. George Strait released 38 hit albums out of which 12 multi platinum, 22 platinum and four gold gave him a rank only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The prestigious RIAA have certified his albums at 68× platinum, which earned 58.5 million in the United States. George Strait best-selling album is Pure Country in 1992. It sold 6 million copies.

His highest certified album is Strait Out of the Box in 1995, which sold 2 million copies the RIAA, rated Strait as the eleventh best-selling recording artist in the United States. George Strait has acted in many feature films. George Strait acted in “The Soldier” in 1982, “Mystery, Alaska and Pure Country in 1992. George Strait also did a role in The Horse Whisperer (1998) and Grand Champion (2002). Pure Country has been portrayed George Strait in the lead role as "Dusty". George Strait was a famous country singer who strays far from his country culture and traditions. The movie provided the opportunity for George Strait to adopt a rock-and-roll approach. The soundtrack to the album, also named Pure Country, released many hit singles for him.

Later Life of George Strait

On May 14, 1981, George Strait and Norma gave birth to their son George Strait, Jr., named "Bubba." Their first child, daughter Jennifer was killed in an automobile accident in 1986, when she was thirteen years old. George Strait set up a foundation, in the memory of his daughter. The Jennifer Lynn Strait Foundation still donates money to children's charities in the San Antonio, Texas. His son, Bubba, has done his graduation from Texas A&M University. George Strait is pursuing a career as a PRCA team roping competitor. George Strait is fond of fishing, playing golf, and riding motorcycles in leisure time. George Strait is a member of the PRC and plays with his son Bubba in team roping competitions. George Strait is also a big fan of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
