George Strait is nominated as entertainer of the year and as the top male vocalist for the Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be broadcast live on April 18, 2010.
On May 27, 2009, Strait was officially name Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music. A program marking the honor, featuring artists as diverse as Jamie Foxx and Martina McBride, aired on CBS.3

Career
Strait began his career playing in a rock band in high school before making the switch to country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after he married and starting singing with the Army band "Rambling Country". After his honorable discharge he graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University) with a degree in agriculture. Nominated 9 times for a Grammy Award but has never won.-
